What I like about Plastik the most is it's mouse over highlighting, for example when I'm near a checkbox it immidieately highlights the checkbox, making it obvious for me that when I click with my mouse it willa ctivate or dectivate the checkbox.

This style also stays out of my way, is attractive and more usable than others.

If you still have the source directory of the old one, it's generally the best to do a "make uninstall" first. If not, it's not that bad here as the new one just overwrites the old files anyway (of course only if you have choosen the same prefix). ;)
Then just restart applications to make them use the new style...

This is a great theme, but I am new to this and I need some help on how to install it on redhat linux 9, or is there a RPM version for redhat linux 9. The install file said to use your kde directory as the configure prefix but I am not sure where it is located. This is a base install. Thanks for all the help. Keep up the good work!

I'm pretty sure it's located at '$HOME/.kde/'

Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!

[can someone help me figure out why i can't compile any of the themes from this site? i'm a complete linux newb;]
You have to install Qt and KDE development ("qt-dev" and "kde-dev" I suppose) packages, they should be in mandrakes package manager.

First off, fantastic job, this is my new default theme. I have one complaint, this seems to be common to a few different themes that I have installed, the KMenu is not resized to the correct width for the font that I have chosen. In the screenshots linked below you can see the dividers do not even reach the width of the menu.

Screenshot (plastik):

Screenshot (.Net):

I'm not sure what is causing this, but I would love to see it fixed as it is my only complaint.

Thanks and great job!

This is one of the best themes I ever
saw. Could it be possible to control
the color of widget borders? In my
opinion, for instance, the color of button
borders is very dim. I don't know if it
is related to the theme itself or to
the application but the size of kcalc's
buttons is very small compared to the
Configure or Help buttons. This does not
happens with other themes. Could it also
be possible to change the appearance of
toolbar separators to something like
that of the alloy theme?

According to the error you are missing the art_lgpl library. Try getting the libart_lgpl and libart_lgpl-devel packages.

For the screenshot I've used KDE from CVS where the kicker got some improvements...
The iconset I'm using is called "Nuvola", you can find it here on kde-look.

Hi Duff,

Ok, Sorry. ;)
KDE CVS is the development version of KDE which will be released as KDE 3.2 in a few weeks.
There are some changes which make the panel look a bit better but you will probably have to wait until KDE 3.2 is out.

I think that a new bug may have been introduced with the new tab code. If you have too many tabs to fit on the screen, then konq will add a little left and right arrow at the top right. Normally, if you can see all the left-most tabs the left arrow will be disabled, and if you can see all the right-most tabs, the right arrow is grayed out. This is no longer the case, the arrows are always enabled.

There is another small annoyance I have, though it seems to be the case with alot of styles, so I'm not sure if it is possible to fix. Since the buttons and lineedits have rounded corners, there is a light-grey pixel at the of the four corners. These become very apparent when viewing an html page with a dark background. Would it be possible to make these 4 corners transparent instead of a fixed light color?

Report

The light pixels on the corner of the widgets isn't actually the fault of the style -- it's a bug in KHTML.

KHTML assumes the text widget to be rectangular and gives it an unfilled box to draw in, rather than letting it draw over the page background.

The style does, in fact, leave the corners as transparent as is possible in KStyle.

If you want to see an even worse example, look at a file upload box.

This should become the new default style for KDE. Kermamik is cool, but not as smooth as this style! I really love it!

I'm not yet comfortable with the the window decoration though (still using keramik). It's a bit XPish.

I think I solved it myself. But not sure. I used 2 commands after installation (as libtool warned me):
libtool --finish/usr/local/kde/lib/kde3/plugins/styles
libtool --finish /usr/local/kde/lib/kde3

and then changed in "styles" to plastik and in "windows decorations" to plastik. But nothing in Theme Manager.

Very nice indeed :)
Plastik and Alloy are now my favourit ones. Just couple of obeservations.

The left most tab seems kind of weird.
IMO the left side should be aligned to what it connects to. Check out other styles like .Net, B3KDE or even HighColor default.
Both Plastik and Allow seem to do it "wrong".

I find the colouring a little weird when compared to some other styles. Maybe lack of contrast, some things seem faded...

It doesn't feel that light.
Maybe it's my impression though.

Anyway I'm just pointing out some not so good stuff. Overall I love it! :)
Keep up the good work!
